Flower Power
Each evening, my dh stands in the front yard surveying his poor, shriveled up flowers. He has quite the green thumb, but it was no match for the scorching temperatures last month and lack of rain here in the Deep South. As I sat on my front porch this morning, I decided that although I can't save the flowers dying their slow, painful death outside my home, I can come up with some really great live flower arrangements for inside my home. It won't change the state of things in my front yard, but it will make me happy so, why not?
I searched the Web and found some ideas to share with you:
- Save-on-crafts.com offers up lots of advice on the ins and outs of creating flower arrangements on its Introduction to Flower Arranging page.
- BHG.com also offers a bunch of articles creating floral arrangements. Check out these fall-inspired projects: this White Pumpkin Vase with Red Flowers and this Fall Pumpkin Roses Centerpiece.
- This Cottage Living magazine arrangement, Roses to Go, caught my eye so I ripped it out and put it in my Projects to Do file. How adorable and easy does this look? Cottage Living also offers up one of the cutest ideas I've seen in live flower arranging--the Take Home Bouquet, so guests leave your home with a little something special.
- If you're looking for something that's super simple, check out HGTV's Displaying Single Flowers page. It doesn't get much easier than that!

Our flowers are helpless here too. We even have water restrictions now. My hubby and I were going to redo our flower beds this year. He ripped them up a few months ago and tried to start over, but everything we planted soon died. It didn't seem to matter how much I watered them. We finally gave up and my yard is a mess. Hopefully we can plant some shrubs or something soon. On the positive side, it rained ALL DAY yesterday! Yay!
