Summertime Decorating
The temperature is crawling up, a bit each day. Seventies became eighties over the past few weeks, and just yesterday, when I checked my car temperature gauge, it shocked me a bit to see that it read 90 degrees. But it is summer--maybe not officially, but it is around my house--and I know there's much more intense heat to come.
So I am left with a challenge: How do I lighten up my decorating for this new season? I don't completely redecorate for every season, but I do like to change things up a bit. And this is what I have in mind for this summer:
- Strip windows of heavy curtains or shades, wherever possible (where privacy is not an issue) to let in more light. Some window dressings can be replaced with inexpensive, bamboo shades or airy cotton panels.
- Replace heavier table runners or tablecloths with lighter ones (like burlap or gauzy materials), or leave tables clean and bare.
- Add light, simple, decorative touches like vases full of bright wildflowers, on mantels and other places throughout the home.
- Remove heavy bedspreads, comforters, and duvets and replace them with lightweight chenille spreads or cotton coverlets. in your bedrooms.
- Sprinkle summery scents throughout the home by using citrusy candles or potpourri.
