Weekend Re-Decorating
My husband and son split town last weekend to going skiing in N.C. So my daughter and I were left at home, and I assumed we'd do what we typically do when the men are out of town: eat out and shop. A lot. But, it didn't quite go as I'd planned. My daughter has a brand new boyfriend, and they were clearly going to spend the three-day holiday weekend sitting on the couch holding hands and making goo-goo eyes at each other. I was left to my own devices, and decided my house needed a total decorating overhaul.
Oh wait...I don't have any money. Darn it. On to Plan B--practice what I preach and do what I tell other people to do when they want to redecorate and have little or no budget: clean, organize, and rearrange.
I began my mission in my kitchen on Saturday morning. I removed everything from the counter-tops, soffits, cabinets. My cabinets are glass-front, so it cleaned them up and rearranged everything according to color and use. I also propped some of my nicer serving platters and antique tole trays up on easels.
In the office, dining room, and living room, I rearranged some artwork and accessories to get a new look in each area. I even relocated my office workspace to a corner of the living room, to get away from my kids, I mean the noise, in our formal living room-turned home office. I also dragged an iron garden bench inside, covered it with pillows, and now it's extra seating by a large living room window. Total cost of my re-decorating adventures: three days, several pots of coffee, and no cash.

I love the re-arrange re-decorating makes things feel clean and fresh! Nice idea on that outdoor bench.
