Tip of the Week--Decorating with Sap Buckets
If your decorating style is country or cottage, you probably won't find a more versatile, stylish accessory than a wonderfully peeling, vintage sap bucket.
You can nab sap buckets almost anywhere antiques are sold. I prefer finding them at flea markets, because they're super-cheap there (around $5-10) and I can find them in a variety of colors and sizes.
Once you have a bucket, try some of these decorative uses for them:
- Use a tall sap bucket in the kitchen to hold a roll of paper towels (clean it out very well, first)
- Place a bottle of white wine inside and fill around it with ice, the next time you have a party. It's a very cute way to keep wine chilled.
- Turn sap buckets upside down and place plates and small platters on top when you're serving a buffet or entertaining. (Make sure the bottom of your bucket is flat--some aren't.) It's a stylish way to elevate serving plates and create more space on your table.
- Use a sap bucket in a cottage-style bathroom to hold hand towels. Just scrub the bucket well, roll up your towels, and place them inside. They're also great for holding toilet paper.
- Fill them with artificial flower arrangements and line them up on your mantel for a fresh, springtime look.
