Decorating With Buttons
Whenever I visit a flea market or antique store, I'm always drawn to bowls or glass jars filled with vintage buttons. So I was happy to see a great article in Country Home this month on decorating with buttons. Although you can't access the article online (at least, not at the time of this writing), check out "The Nest" section of the magazine next time you're in a bookstore or in line at the grocery store.
If you like the idea of decorating with buttons but don't know where to start, try using them to:
- Embellish a handmade purse (such as cloth and cigar-box purses)
- Decorate recycled furniture (I glued buttons on the back of an old chair I painted)
- Dress up a boring lampshade (glue them on as a trim, or cover the entire shade)
- Create a decorative trim for a tablecloth (sew buttons along the edges).
I also found two online sources with ideas for decorating with buttons: check out this episode of Kitty Batholomew's You're Home on HGTV and this episode of Country Style, also on HGTV.
